Books That Help

‘Books That Help’ was a project initiated by the author Clare Helen Welsh to help support children with challenging emotions and experiences through the power of story and books. Being able to identify with characters in stories can be very helpful for children in general, but particularly when a child might be experiencing a challenging situation such as losing a loved one or parental separation. Clare’s website is a useful resource and details lots more books that can help and offers some practical ideas of how to share the books with children.

We are very lucky to have a good selection of the books recommended thanks to Chandra, who raised over £1000 by doing a sponsored swim, and generous donations from parents. The books can be found outside Dove Tree’s classroom and are available for parents to borrow. There is a physical catalogue in the book area for parents and staff to look through and a signing-out/in book for parents to log any books that they borrow. You can also browse the catalogue below. This is a wonderful resource and we’d really love for parents to make use of it.
