Year 3 & 4 Science - Sound
In the first half of the Autumn term, Year 3 and 4 classes are studying Sound, investigating how sound is made, how we hear it, which materials sound does or doesn't travel through and how we can adjust pitch and volume.
To launch the topic, we had a very noisy, but fun, afternoon exploring how sound is made using a range of everyday objects found in the home or school. We experimented with different ways of hitting objects, speaking into them, holding them in different ways or with different tensions or levels. We also discovered we can feel sound!
Creating Habitats in Willow Class
We created our own habitat models based on the plastic animals we have in our classroom.
SCIENCE DAY - YEAR 3 and 4!
We learnt all about ELECTRICITY. What electricity is. How to make a circuit. How to draw circuit diagrams. Conductors and Insulators. We investigated our own questions about electrical circuits using Fair Tests.
In Lime Tree Class, we've been finding out about how different vegetables grow. We had to dig our new potatoes out of the ground and our courgettes grew from a tiny seed in to a huge plant! Here we are making courgette cakes and enjoying potatoes!

Year 5 Science!
In science we have been learning all about plant life and pollination. We have drawn scientific diagrams of flowers and used these to label parts of lilies while we dissected the buds.

Year 5 science: investigating properties of materials
Eggbert was being thrown off the terrace!
We investigated properties of different materials to help him made a soft landing and void getting scrambled... We also thought about different forces like gravity and air resistance.
YEAR 3 and 4 SCIENCE DAY
ROCKS, SOILS and FOSSILS
We have learnt all about how fossils are formed, different types of rocks and what soils are made of. We also carried out a FAIR TEST to see which type of SOIL allowed water to flow through the quickest/slowest.
It was all great fun.

YEAR 6 SCIENCE
In our science learning we are learning all about the circulatory system and how it works; what better way to learn than getting hands-on with a real set of lungs and heart? We learned so much and will never forget finding the different chambers of the heart and bronchioles within the lungs!
Beech Tree Class have been finding lots of different ways to explore forces.
In PE they have been finding out how they use pushes and pulls to move both objects and themselves.

NATIONAL NAVAL COMPETITION
We are very pleased to announce that The Grove won the National Naval Engineering Competition to design a vessel that could rescue 1000 people from perils in the sea. Commander Benstead visited to present the winning team with their prize and to present a STEM assembly too.
Well done to the winning team.
SCIENCE WEEK
In Year 3 and 4 we held a Science Hands-on Exhibition. We learnt so much by investigating ourselves...

Demonstration and Simulation
Beech Tree Class had some very special visitors as part of our science topic Growing and Changing. The chicks and ducklings were 14 days old and we were lucky enough to hold them and find out lots of information about them. One or two of them are going to visit us again later in the term so we can see how they have grown and changed.
