Rainforests: Can they survive us?

As we began our exciting new topic, the children had to delve into their imagination. They were transported to another place on Earth by plane and when they arrived they stood on 'The wobbly bridge,' as they learned they were contestants on 'I'm a celebrity - Get me out of here!' They were then set the task of completing different 'Bushtucker trial' challenges to learn what our new topic was.

These consisted of working collaboratively to discover what topic-related items were in different feely boxes, finding survival rations (insect larvae and chrysalides) and eating them before they could then piece together what the topic was! It was great fun and the children demonstrated excellent collaborative skills as they pieced together our new topic question. Take a look at us in action below!
Residential!
Check out our superstar year 6s on their recent residential on Dartmoor!
They had a fantastic time and braved the elements to push themselves further than they would have thought possible - as you can see..!
Music!
We have been listening and analysing Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt which is a dramatic story of a chase between Peer and a Mountain King set to music. Using this as inspiration we set our adventure stories to music, we started learning about western notation but for our compositions we used graphic scores to help us capture the story!
Art!
While the year 6s were busy on their residential the year 5s were hard at work creating a 3D piece of art during the afternoons! As a school we are focusing on the theme of "respect". Grey Birch chose to create a 3D panther to demonstrate that we need to respect our environment and all other living things.

When the panther is finished it will be decorated with individual paintings created from every member of the class.
